Using Appleworks with Leopard

A couple of things to know about using AppleWorks with Leopard

Apple does not officially support AppleWorks with Leopard. However, it should work okay except for the following features:

Recent Items

The recent items feature built into AppleWorks is not compatible with Leopard. The OS has a recent items feature under the Apple Menu which includes items from all applications. The current setting is to remember the ten most recent Documents and Applications. This setting can be changed in System Preferences>Appearance, the highest value is 50.

Starting Points

Not supported with Leopard. The alternative is to use the button bar, Window>Show Button Bar or the File>New menu.

Auto-Save

Again not supported with Leopard. In my opinion this is a key feature and I don't know why it causes problems. The only solution I can suggest is to train yourself to save often.

Clear Recent Items and Auto Save folders

Follow these steps to empty the Recent Items folder or Auto Save folder.

1. Quit AppleWorks.

2. Locate the Recent Items and delete the aliases inside it.

If you're using Mac OS X the Recent Items folder can be found at:

MacintoshHD/Users/YourName/Documents/AppleWorks User Data/Starting Points/Recent Items.

3. Locate the Auto Save folder and delete the documents inside it. If you're using Mac OS X the Auto Save folder can be found at:

MacintoshHD/Users/YourName/Documents/AppleWorks User Data/AutoSave.

4. You must then disable these features in AppleWorks.

To disable these preferences:

a. In Mac OS X, start AppleWorks and choose the AppleWorks > Preferences > General menu.

b. Set At Startup, Show, to Nothing
